The well-known design firm in Lucca, Studio Musetti, has completely restored a classic village house in the hills, 11 km southeast of the city. The owners wanted to preserve the character of the chestnut beam and stone construction villa as much as possible. The results of 2 years of reconstruction work are outstanding.
The large but cozy living/dining area contains a stone and chestnut fireplace and alcove.

“Il Rifugio” is a late 18th- early 19th century villa of approx. 3400 sq. ft. (320 sq. meters). There are 3 large bedroom suites with full baths, walk/in closets and/or dressing areas, tiled enclosed showers, custom chestnut cabinetry, and marble counters and glass bowl sinks.

The villa flooring is antique-style terracotta, laid in the traditional herring bone pattern. All windows, interior shutters, doors, and cabinets are custom built using chestnut wood. All windows have double thermal-paned glazing. The villa’s original chestnut beams have been restored and re-fitted, as have the original stone stairs.

An immense library/media room has a cathedral open chestnut-beamed ceiling, skylight, and lovely views of the neighboring hills.
