VILLA GIOVANNETTI

Surrounding the lovely old walled city of Lucca, high in the hills, can be found many of the villas built by the wealthy to escape the summer heat. One of these is Villa Giovannetti, constructed in the 18th century in the classic Tuscan style. The residence, with its typical square shape, is located in the village of Pieve di Compito, about 11 km. from Lucca.

GARDEN AND POOL

From the gravel square in front of the villa, stone stairways and camellia-lined grassy paths lead to large fir trees which then open up into the main part of the garden and its splendid camellia wood. The lovely plant life provides a perfect setting for the villa.

The southern part of the garden contains a large lawn with a circular pool surrounded by stone paving. The garden ends with a row of cypress trees which surround the property on three sides.

INTERIOR

You enter the lower floor of villa throught the main entrance which leads to a large living room perfectly furnished with antiques; next to it is a smaller sitting room. Another entrance follows providing access to a dining room, the kitchen, storage room and basement rumpus room. A wide stone stairway goes to the upper floors where there is a library with a writing desk, couch and pianola; another large living room follows with wooden and upholstery couches and a wonderful piano. A French door leads to a balcony which overlooks the entire garden of the villa. The bedrooms are also located on this floor: four doubles and two twins. There are two recently renovated bathrooms. The heating system and traditional kitchen fireplace con be used for wintertime accommodations..
